Rudyard Kipling Elementary School

Moving Forward

Kipling Elementary School is a Chicago Public School educating students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Welcome Letter and Supply List

Greetings Parents,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  My name is Tamra Kumiega and I will be your child’s teacher this year.  This is my 24th year as a CPS teacher, with the last 14 years of my career teaching here at Kipling.  I am excited to begin the school year getting to know you and your child. I hope to build an open line of communication by utilizing the Remind App which you will receive further information about in the near future.

We will be focusing heavily on using the Common Core Standards in Reading and Math, and learning nonfiction text through Social Science and Science. Students will receive homework in both reading and math daily. Homework is expected to be completed, signed by a parent, and turned in the next morning. Missing homework results in a grade of zero. Homework will be posted weekly on the school website:

Students are expected to be on time every morning; our school day begins at 7:45 promptly. The Reading Block begins at 8:00 and it is very important your child is present for instruction. The following is our preparation period schedule (if any changes in this schedule occur, you will be notified):

Monday-Technology                                                                      Thursday-Technology

Tuesday-Music                                                                                 Friday-Music

Wednesday-Physical Education

Students will be using the following websites in school and can access at home: Raz-Kids, iXL, and Dreambox. Further instructions and passwords will be sent home soon.

We will be taking advantage of the BOOK-IT reading incentive program offered by Pizza Hut. Students who complete their monthly goals will receive a certificate to redeem for a free personal pizza at participating Pizza Hut Restaurants. Be on the look-out for this to begin in October.

The following is our school supply wish list. Please try your best to make sure your child has the needed supplies to make them feel successful and ready to learn. The classroom cleaning supplies are also extremely important since they aren’t supplied by CPS and it is important to keep germs down to a minimum because students will be eating breakfast and lunch in our classroom.
