In “You’ve Been Hacked!” (p. 6-9), you learned that the Internet of Things presents society with both opportunities and risks.

Based on what you read, do you think the Internet of Things is a positive technological development or something we should avoid? Use this skills sheet to write an essay that explains your point of view and persuades other readers. Support your opinion with evidence from the article, internet research, and your own experiences.

1. WHAT DO YOU THINK? Start your first paragraph with a position statement. This is where you clearly and concisely state your opinion about the topic. Use this space to write your position statement.

2. SUPPORT YOUR CLAIM: Your second paragraph should include facts that support your position statement. Provide at least three convincing pieces of evidence.

3. CONCLUSION: Your essay should end with a summary of your main points. Your conclusion should demonstrate to your reader why he or she should agree with your position statement. Write a summary here.

4. READ AND REVISE: Reread your essay and evaluate what you have written. Does your first paragraph grab the reader’s attention and provide a quick overview of the issue? Is your opinion about the topic clear and well-supported? Is it convincing?

Make any necessary changes in your second draft. You will now rewrite your essay following the SWR with no errors. This is due Monday 3-20-17. Students will peer edit each other’s work using the student created rubric.

Homework - You will complete the assessment this is a take home test. Remember to do a search to determine if our school was tested for lead. You want to find out which schools were tested in Chicago, IL and the results.
