Week 10-2-17 Science Explorations

5th Grade Writing Homework- - 5th / CSS ELA W 5.2- Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

Students must revisit the rubric below and their SWR (Science Writing Rubric). Parents please sign and date your student's final two paragraphs please check their work.  NP- Title - Quarter 1 Declarations - Writing Directions- Write two paragraphs sharing your plan for success this first quarter.

P 1- Share what and how you will be committed to your academics. How will you prepare for classes in the morning? How do make sure you remain focused in all classes? What should you do if you do not understand something in class? When you do not understand something what do you do first in Science class? How do you use your resources to ensure you provide evidence?

P 2-  Share what you will do at home to ensure great grades. How will you communicate with your family when you need help? When will you let them know you are having trouble in your classes? How does school prepare you for high school? How does school prepare you for college and a career? How are adults expected to perform on their jobs?

5th Grade / PS 1-2  Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substance interacts to determine if chemical reaction has occurred.

- Chemical Technology -  Students engage your family in discussions using your notes and knowledge concerning chemical technology. Think about ways in which science/technology has improved the following: 

1. Health   2. Nutrition 3. Transportation


6th Grade /  ESS 2-4 Develop a model to describe the cycling of water through Earth’s systems driven by energy from the sun and the force of gravity.

Title: Water Importance Read pages 4-7. Explain the importance of water? Think about it’s importance as it relates to humans, animals, plant life, and your daily survival. Provide evidence to support your ideas. Write in paragraph form using your SWR. Every complete sentence contains two parts: a subject and a predicate. The subject is what (or whom) the sentence is about, while the predicate tells something about the subject.

My name is Kaitlyn Doherty & I am excited to have joined the Kipling Tigers Team for the 2018-2019 school year! This school year begins my 6th year teaching in CPS, and my 4th year teaching Diverse Learners. In working closely with your middle schooler, I will assist him/her in accelerating their academic career, and instilling life-long learning skills along the way. I will assist your child in an Inclusion setting (within general education classrooms) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:45am-2:45pm and Fridays, 7:45am-11:20am.
