Rudyard Kipling Elementary School

Moving Forward

Kipling Elementary School is a Chicago Public School educating students from Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Week of 10-17-16 6 & 8 th Grade / Standard - PS1-4 Molecules Matter

6th Grade / 10-20-16 ESS2C- Determine the roles of water in Earth's surface processes.

During this webquest, you will learn how we measure rain and snow from the ground and from space using satellites, and why we need to check the data (what’s called ground validation or ground truthing) from the satellites. This particularly relates to the OLYMPEX Field Campaign which will look at precipitation in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State from November 2015 until January of 2016. You will also learn about some of the particular weather patterns experienced in that location, and why scientists have chosen it as a study area.

MS-PS1-4. Develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed.

Molecules Matter

Key Concepts

  • Chemistry is the study of matter.
  • Matter is made up of extremely tiny particles called atoms and molecules.
  • Atoms and molecules make up the three common states of matter on Earth—solids, liquids, and gases.
  • The particles of a liquid are attracted to one another, are in motion, and are able to move past one another.
  • Being a solid, liquid, or gas is a property of a substance.

Small Group Instruction- You will get 3 Chromebooks for each group, go to the school website, and access the information titled: Molecules Matter:
